The town of Oulx is located in the center of Alta Val di Susa at the confluence of the Dora Riparia and the Dora di Bardonecchia, to about 76 km of Turin. The slopes of Mount Cotolivier (2105 m), is dominated in the north by Mount Seguret (2910 m) and is located downstream of the town of Sauze d'Oulx, with which it is connected by a road. Due to its position on the route to the Montgenevre connecting the Rhone valley with that of the Po, since prehistoric times Oulx was a meeting place of nations and trading center with the cultures of passage.
The capital is the town hall, as well as the business and key services and is historically divided into three villages: Upper Village (or the Old Village), Village and Lower Abadia. Oulx, Thanks to its central location in the valley and the presence of the railway station, is health resort and tourist area from which most of the local income. Oulx has no lifts (after the closure of those of Beaulard): winter sports resorts are closest Sauze d'Oulx (5 km) and Bardonecchia (12 km).
